October 2002 Commissioned to design a window display for Selfridges department store. Two products, My friendly Little Extrovert and Shell3 were selected to be featured in Selfridges Oxford street windows during Design Week, Oct 10 - 28 The Shell3 screen and My Friendly Little Extrovert lamp also featured in Tokyo Designers-block in two venues, the Australian Embassy and Idee Pacific. My Friendly Little Extrovert has had interest from design icon Idee and is likely to go into production for next seasons release. September 2002 Exhibition, 'Fold' at Craft Victoria in Flinders Lane, exhibited a folded space-frame made from paper April. 2002 Speech at Interiordesignex, Australia's primary objects and design conference and tradeshow. Exhibition: 'Cerebral Fandango' at Bus Galleries Melbourne with associate Shane Sakkeus. The exhibition explores the generation of forms through systems and without intervention February 2002 Installed 13 feature pieces including wall panels, sculptures and lighting into a bar and dining room in Adelaide. This work attracted instant critical acclaim and led to the commissioning of two furniture pieces for permanent collection for the Art Gallery of South Australia. Held an exhibition and forum speech at the Wexner Centre of Contemporary Art, USA. Partitions were the opening piece to the show of over 6000 objects. December 2001 Selected for $10 000 grant and studio residency in Milan by the Australia Council for the Arts. Will take up residency and exhibit in Milan May 2002. Also invited to studio in Barcelona during July. November 2001 Commission for 8m feature wall and lighting - Westin Hotel in Florida with NY based Design Agency BBGM October 2001 Exhibited "Experiments in Folding" at Tokyo DesignersBlock. "Experiments in Folding" incorporates 20 folded sculptures and 5 pieces of folded furniture. It investigates open-ended experimentation as an alternative approach to design - how folding changes the behaviour, structure and form of sheet materials and how 'playing' with a material can lead to results that cannot be predicted. The show was well received and has been published internationally. September 2001 Exhibited at London DesignersBlock, major satellite show to 100% Design. (See www.DesignersBlock2001.co.uk for reference) August 2001 Installed art piece in the Establishment complex Sydney, titled "false / image" Designed objects inside Market St window of David Jones Sydney. Standard shelf stock is manipulated and used to make experimental furniture. July 2001 Collaborated in design of central partition for cafe in Melbourne. Folded sculptures constitute the aesthetic focal point. Installed feature screens at Kirketon Hotel in Sydney May 2001 Designed Monument Magazine's stand for Designex. Stand was very well regarded and will be published in (inside) and Monument magazines. March 2001 Exhibited Flex screen in Object Gallery's 'New Design for 2001' a graduate show of the best selected works of 2000 February 2001 Opened 'Experiments in Folding' at the Kirketon Hotel in Sydney. Graduated from Swinburne University with the highest marks ever awarded to a designer. (Industrial Des. hons.) August 2000 Won 'Young Designer of the Year Award 2000' Future exhibitions National Gallery 2003 - Following the opening of Melbourne City's Federation Square in 2003, Enlai Hooi will be exhibiting at the National Gallery of Victoria. Cappellini 2003- Enlai Hooi is presently in residence in Milan, and is finalising arrangements for a solo show at Cappellini's flagship store in central Milan in early 2003. March Designed Stand for Sydney International Furniture Show. Currently lecturing design theory at Swinburne's National School of Design. Published broadly in Design and lifestyle magazines.
